It’s a very interesting topic of discussion, and merits a top-level post. Here’s the short version:

On the one hand, I’ve experienced firsthand what can happen when you adopt an “us against the world” attitude and ignore others’ opinions or criticism.

On the other hand, I’ve also experienced feeling tossed about in the wind, buffeted about by others’ opinions and unable to make significant forward progress in any direction because SOMEONE is going to vehemently disagree with the direction I take. Even if I limit my critics to only my friends, I have such a diverse and opinionated group of friends that I’d STILL never get anywhere.

Given how vulnerable I am to the criticism and opinions of others, it’s kind of a choice between putting my steering wheel in the hands of others or in my own hands. And if it comes down to that, I’m going to pick my own hands.

I like the E-Myth, that’s a very good idea to have out there – to remind people of. Also, many of the people who are good at (and enjoy) the business-side are people who don’t mind (or prefer) working for someone else.

Make sure to include hiring such a person in the plan.
