Oho! Thank you, Randy, for your excellent google-fu! I searched for quite some time and was unable to find the driver. That makes sense -- eMachines isn't the manufacturer, just the reseller. So bypassing eMachines and going straight to the actual manufacturer, you can find the XP drivers. Good work, and thanks for sharing! (:

Pace,

Thank you for your comments and instructions on how to convert an eMachines T5254 to XP. I found it very helpful. I was unable to get XP to load until I ran the fixboot and fixmbr commands.

Prior to converting my customer's unit, I looked at the Device Manager and found the audio was called "Realtek HD Audio." After I converted the system to XP, I tried both DriverAgent.Com and DriverDownload.Net. Neither system could detect the sound system built into the motherboard. A Google search for "realtek hd audio driver" yielded a link to Realtek's driver site which got me the exact driver.

Here is the link:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/Downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Agreeing to Realtek's license gets you the driver.

Pace, while it is to late to help you with your audio problem, perhaps it will help someone else who Google's for help and can now get the audio driver.
