[...] While one explores Truth, an exploration of Honesty must also be present. What does it mean to be 99% honest versus 100% honest? Only 1%, however, that 1% can make a world of difference over time in one’s life and communication with others. I think that Pace from Connection Revolution explains it best, http://connection-revolution.com/stop-telling-little-white-lies-the-difference-between-99-percent-ho... [...]

Thank goodness indeed! Comfort and safety are important to keep in mind too. It can be really hard to find places where we feel comfortable and safe, but it's so worth it.

Challenging post. I know it often comes down to conflict avoidance for me. Usually with family members (or boyfriend's family members). Or in "social settings" where the expectation is that you'll be prim and polished and proper and polite. Thank goodness for all the places where we can be real!

I think there may be another side to the "fear that others won't love me as I truly am" and that's "I know that I may not be safe." Perhaps that comes around to your honesty and openness scales. That when it's not safe (or even not comfortable), you can be honest without being open.

Right, Kristal. It's more like choosing internal conflict over external conflict. Great insight.

Wow the "avoiding conflict" really hit me hard. I realized I do this all the time. It's really silly to lie period. In the end I've figured out that I'm not really avoiding conflict, because the lying causes a big conflict in my soul. Being honest can lead to a better conversation and learning something I didn't know before. Avoiding conflict is really avoiding the truth.

Such a great post. I love this call to be more honest.

All of the reasons for not being 100% honest that you identify resonate for me. I have that weird, lurking, ever-present belief that saying "yes" "sure" "that sounds good" makes me more lovable and make me a nice person - even to my husband who of course has told me a hundred times that he would just like to know what I really think/feel/want. Of course I know its not rational, and its so there. And like you, I experience all those amazing benefits/blessings/ of telling the truth and see how its usually appreciated AND it allows me to get what I want, much of the time. Shocking, really!

Thank you for the powerful reminder!

Thank you for this post. I have felt this way so often and you put into words so many of the thoughts I've had. I too, from this moment, am 100% committed to being 100% honest!

Thank you for posting this.

I was so good at being 99%, but never 100% honest, but since I moved here, I felt, suddenly, that it was necessary to get to that 100%. It's about becoming more who you are. So in October I was just 100% honest with a friend of mine, about how I really felt about her boyfriend, and she emailed me last night to say we are no longer friends.

And it makes me really sad, because she is a lovely person, and I love her, but if she can't handle 100% honesty, then I suppose friendship isn't in the cards for us.

Wow, great post. You've inspired me, I'm going to try eliminating my own "rounding errors" now. What a great term :p

Thanks,
